MAKERS OF COUGH SYRUP cash in all winter long as cold sufferers down bottle after bottle of foul-tasting goo that is little more than flavored booze. Chronic cold catchers like me, who spend a third of our winters bowing to the virus of the week, don't fool ourselves. We might as well be drinking liquor instead of downing NyQuil. Some folks even swear by the healing power of the proper hot drink. For me, that's the hot toddy, heavy on both booze and lemon. While I recommend it before bedtime, substituting toddies for cough syrup in the workplace isn't advised.
