Angkor Wat
$$. You could come to Angkor Wat just for the art, but I recommend that you try the soups, at the very least. The first Cambodian restaurant in the U.S., they say. 4217 Geary in the Richmond district (415/221-7887). (P.A.)

Axum Cafe
$. Casual, tasty Ethiopian for cheap. The service can be unbelievably slow, but the food is consistently delicious and filling. Lower Haight, 698 Haight, (415/252-7912). (P.A.)

Bauhaus
$$. A unique restaurant, club and art gallery which offers great martinis, Pacific Rim cuisine and a number of caviar dishes. The inspiration for this art club was the German Bauhaus movement that began in 1919. Richmond, 6139 Geary Blvd. (415/387-2284). (P.A.)

Borobudur
$$. The menu is huge, the flavors are complex. The place for that late-night Indonesian fix. Nob Hill, 700 Post, (415/775-1512). (P.A.)

Coriya
$$. DIY, all you can eat. Marinate, grill, boil and fry a dazzling assortment of meats, vegetables, etc. from the buffet. Richmond, 852 Clement, (415/387-7888). (P.A.)

Eastern & Oriental Trading
$$. If you're downtown and need grilled Southeast Asian food, this concepty cavern is a good bet. Also features house-brewed beers and sodas, and a wild Singapore Sling. Downtown, 314 Sutter (415/693-0303). (P.A.)

Katz Bagels
$. Consistently real-tasting bagels, with the usual selection of types and toppings, although the portions of the latter can be skimpy. 604 Mission in Downtown (415/512-1570) and 3147 16th Street in the Mission (415/552-9122). (P.A.)

Keur-Baobab
$. This Senegalese hole-in-the-wall is easy to overlook, but don't. The mefe (peanut-based stew) is "so good it will drive you crazy." Mission, 3388 19th St, (415/643-3558). (P.A.)

Lhasa Moon
$$. Tibetan food in a pretty, homey environment. The momo are highly recommended, and the homemade pastas are superb. Marina, 2420 Lombard, (415/674-9898). (P.A.)

Moxie
$$. This odd spot appears to be a mix of Eastern European bistro with North African influences. Well-done on the whole, though there's no applesauce for the potato pancakes--that's moxie bordering on chutzpah. Mission, 2742 17th St. (415/863-4177). (P.A.)

Old Krakow

Shenson's Delicatessen
$$. An actual authentic kosher deli way out on 16th Avenue. Cluttered, sometimes dusty, with few frills, but the food exceeds expectations. Richmond, 5120 Geary, (415/751-4699). (P.A.)

Vinga
$$. An elegant Spanish restaurant featuring exquisitely crafted dishes. Try the fadeua (paella with noodles), sauteed spinach and desserts. SoMa, 320 Third St. (415/546-3131). (P.A.)

Zarzuela
