The season may be over for L.A. Dodgers' pitching sensation Hideo Nomo, but his legacy lives on through the winter in a site designed by some of his most ardent English-capable (for the most part) Japanese fans over there in the Land of the Rising Yen. "Tornado" is, of course, Nomo's nickname, commemorating his 180-degree-hip-swinging windup. For some reason, the Tornado becomes "Boy" to these fans, unabashed in their enthusiasm for their national hero. Most of the hardcore Nomo info (bio, stats) is here in the form of links to related sites. But it's worth tuning in for such features as "You've Got the Glory Mound," "Cheer Him Up" (suggestions for good placard slogans) and "Hey, Ill-Mannered Fans!" in which the Tornado Boy team excoriates those fans who take their Nomo worship beyond the boundaries of good taste at the ballpark. They also offer a page headed, "Insider Scoops of Tornado." But don't expect too much dirt on the laconic, monolingual hurler. The info gets no juicier than, "When the team is on the road, Nomo eats a large amount of food." (JV)
