City of the Silent

Death is going to get all of us at some point (even those wacky Extropians), so why not enjoy the funeral while we're still here to enjoy it? That's why I like cemeteries -- I figure by the time I'm interred, I won't be in much of a mood to get a kick out of the fancy memorials and picturesque setting. The City of the Silent web page seems to reflect some of the same attitude, and it does so in an elegant, informative, and thoroughly enjoyable fashion. Not only are there pretty pictures of cemeteries around the world, there are insightful digressions on the history of cemeteries, grave terminology, tombstone rubbings, and why people visit cemeteries, along with the obligatory (yet very well-chosen) lists of cemetery web and usenet links.
