The Kurt Cobain Investigation
This is one of those classic, Chandleresque L.A. private eye stories: Wealthy femme fatale hires private dick to locate her missing, mercurial hubby, but hubby turns up sleeping the big sleep and it doesn't take long for dick to figure out he's been played for a sucker. This is a real-life story, however, in which investigator Tom Grant lays out the evidence against his former employer, Courtney Love, in the "suicide" of her husband, grunge-rock God Kurt Cobain. Actually, this site is maintained by Chris Carman, a Kurt fan who pulls Grant's postings from alt.music.nirvana newsgroup. Slavish Hole devotees caveat: this site will piss you off. Grant's evidence, while it may not be enough to put Courtney in the slammer just yet, doesn't make her look too good. His thesis, way oversimplified, is that Cobain was not suicidal but instead was so intenely disillusioned with the music biz that he was about to walk away from his career and, most immediately, a $4 million gig on the Lollapalooza tour. Love wasn't keen on losing her meal ticket and so... Don't rush to judgment. Set aside a half-hour or so to absorb this mostly-text site and judge for yourself. (JV)
