Fall Out Boy
THE EMO HAS LANDED:
While many have been quick to criticize Fall Out Boy by claiming the band is presenting nothing new to today's music scene, a younger generation has been just as quick to embrace the quartet from Illinois. Fall Out Boy's second major full-length album, From Under the Cork Tree, peaked at number 9 on Billboard's Top 200 chart riding on the strengths of hits like "Sugar, We're Going Down" and "Dance, Dance." Between touring, interviews and the old MTV music video shoots, the group somehow found the time to record another album, Infinity on High, that should hit stores in early February. Fall Out Boy's Friends or Enemies tour hits the Warfield tonight with openers New Found Glory, the Early November and Permanent Me.

Whiskey Sunday
OLD SCHOOL PUNK:
When you come across some little sonic flotsam from these San Jo punks, it immediately rips you back to when you gloriously hoarded your milk money, wasted it on a 7" single and played it until the damn thing warped, that's Whiskey Sunday in a nutshell. Their sound harkens to a lost era of punk rock, where there were melodies discernable through the loud and fast noise pollution that made you first want to don 17-eye Docs, a ripped jean vest and run around your room until you bashed into the walls. Whiskey Sunday hits tight with '80s style hardcore riffs from a double guitar attack, solid work on the driving beats and vocals that make you want to wipe a smirk off someone's face with your fist. Whiskey Sunday plays tonight at Johnny V's with the She He He's, Vena Cava and In the Red.

Manchester School
MOD CITY ROCKERS:
For those of you that believe you can only get that retro mod new wave '80s indie rock fix through flashback weekends over the airwaves, think again. Manchester School sonically recalls the best dystopian nights of the Smiths and Joy Division while managing to create a wholly unique sound that would have Morrissey smiling in spite of himself. Yet, the post-punk flavorings of pop aren't the only hallmarks of this talented local band, Manchester School can also crank the amps and let fly faster anthems that should have all the disaffected kids dancing in circles in the open, dead flowered alternative fields of a scene full of potential musical hope and free from the screaming ways of emo. Manchester School headlines tonight at the Blank with Atomic Mint, Cold-Hot-Crash and Bloomfield Underground.

The Tubes
40-YEAR AMP WAR:
The original White Punks on Dope have left their Marin digs to inflict brain damage on yet a fourth decade. Performance artists from the pre-punk glam mid-70s, they became pop sensations with anti-love songs like "Don't Touch Me There," and "Talk to You Later." Fee Waybill is still looks great with a TV on his head and performs recklessly for an audience that is guaranteed to scream "W.P.O.D." on cue. The Tubes are just about as classically subversive a as you're likely to find these days and this show at The Independent should be a good one.

Chus & Ceballos
YO, STRAIGHT OUTTA THE MED:
The spinning masterminds behind the Iberian sound in the house world, DJs Chus and Ceballos have gained worldwide acclaim for their ground-breaking dancing on the edge sets. This duo is in high demand by top musical artists for their mad remixing skills, but, Chus and Ceballos seemingly prefer work on the decks to work in the studio. Their simply mind blowing sets thoroughly explore every aspect of the house music genre creating a fusion of styles and sounds that never fails to get the bodies moving on the dance floor.

Damage Inc.
MASTERS OF IMITATION:
As live music scenes slouch across the country, cover bands fill in the gaps by playing tried-and-true tunes that bring back their target audience's lost adolescence in a flood of familiar sound. Usually their names are pretty clever, too. But unlike other bands that make a career out of ripping off other bands, Damage Inc. don't try to pretend they're doing anything besides playing note-for-note reproductions of Metallica originals, which is all well and good, but would somebody tell me why the world hasn't seen a band called Hicks Against the Machine yet? It's just one of many things that don't exist, but should. Izzy Osbourne and others also perform.

Catch 22
CIRCUITOUS LOGIC:
Joseph Heller take note: Catch 22 is more than a phrase for military impotence; it is also the name of a jazz guitar group. Drawing form the musical faculty at Duquesne University,Catch 22 consists of guitarists Bill Purse, Ken Karsh and Mark Koch, with help from drummer Billy Kuhn and bassist Jeff Mangone. The last, in particular, is heard to superlative effect on the title track to the group's Reappearance album. This show is presented by the South Bay Guitar Society.

Christian Scott
MODERN STREET JAZZ:
At the age of 22, trombonist Christian Scott has already made a strong impact on the jazz world, bringing a flashy hip-hop style and attitude to his playing and public persona that has commanded the attention of as many as it has turned off--after all, appearing in photo shoots with chain-link fences and barbed wire isn't the quickest route into the jazz canon. Scott is the type of jazz performer that could send Wynton Marsalis (the jazz world's answer to George F. Will) into fits, effortlessly introducing rock and hip-hop elements into his compositions. On his new album Rewind This, Scott pays tribute to the New Orleans jazz traditions he was steeped in while moving to far less traditional, and reverent, places with his flourishes and stylistic swagger.

KRS-One
SCIENCE LESSON:
The essence of the hip-hop MC, KRS-One comes to the Agenda Lounge in downtown San Jo to drop a little lyrical science and a whole shit-ton of knowledge on a scene that could use a little lesson. Easily one of the most highly regarded rappers of all time, KRS-One flows with a style and substance that every MC after him as tried to adopt, but none have ever come close to the Teacher's socially poignant, often political and always controversial takes on modern society.
