Metro Newspapers Wins Awards

On Sept. 11, the National Newspaper Association announced the winners of its 1995 contest year, and Metro Newspapers received the following awards. Metro First Place, Best Review: Richard von Busack, review of The Addiction, Nov. 9, 1995. Second Place, Best Coverage of the Performing Arts: Arts editor Michael Gant and arts writers Philip Collins, Gina Arnold, Ann Sherman, Victor Perera and Richard von Busack. Honorable Mention, Best Original Cartoon: Steven DeCinzo, July 27, 1995. Saratoga News Honorable Mention, Best Feature Picture, circulation 10,000+: Lea Tauriello, cover photo for story on firefighters, May 24, 1995. Los Gatos Weekly-Times Honorable Mention, Best Column, Humorous, circulation 10,000+: Corinne Asturias, April 26, 1995.
