Metro and Metro Santa Cruz
Win National Awards

The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN), a national association of more than 100 alternative arts/newsweeklies, announced the winners of its annual editorial contest at its June 1997 convention in Montreal, Canada. Metro was awarded first place for illustration by Winston Smith for the Equinox multilevel marketing story and won second place for layout on the same story. Metro Santa Cruz took first place in the photo category of this year's contest for Robert Scheer's photo essay on faith. Metro Santa Cruz also won a second-place award for arts writing for an essay by Christina Waters on the Franklin Mint.
